Description
Karuppu Kavuni Rice, also known as Karuppu Kavuni Arisi or Tamil Black Rice, is a traditional rice variety valued for its distinctive dark colour, earthy flavour and wholesome nutritional profile. This naturally dark-coloured rice gets its deep purple-black appearance from naturally occurring plant pigments called anthocyanins. Karuppu Kavuni has been traditionally consumed in Tamil households and is increasingly appreciated as a nutritious alternative to commonly available polished white rice.
Our Karuppu Kavuni Rice is suitable for people looking to include traditional grains and rice varieties in their everyday diet. Its naturally rich colour and characteristic aroma make it a unique addition to regular meals. The rice can be used to prepare cooked rice, kanji, porridge, traditional rice dishes, pulao and other recipes. It can also be soaked before cooking to help reduce cooking time and achieve a softer texture.
Compared with highly polished rice, traditional minimally processed rice varieties can retain more of the natural components present in the rice grain. Karuppu Kavuni is especially valued for its naturally occurring anthocyanin compounds and dietary fibre. Its distinctive taste pairs well with vegetables, legumes, curries and traditional South Indian side dishes.
Karuppu Kavuni Rice is a great choice for families interested in traditional Indian rice varieties, wholesome meals and adding greater variety to their daily grain consumption. Enjoy it as part of a balanced diet with vegetables, pulses, proteins and other nutritious foods.
